Where do I even begin with these Smith Rock sunset maternity photos?! Alyssa and I have been friends for 23 years. I cant even believe it sometimes, but we’ve been so blessed to keep our friendship strong throughout the past two decades.
We were both bridesmaids in each others weddings, we grew up doing gymnastics together, our parents became friends, we were mistaken for twins (we used to look SO much alike, I really wish I had an old photo to share!), and we’ve been able to experience so many of life’s highs and lows with the support of one another.
By far, the greatest phase of life to enter in together has been motherhood (although, renting a sketchy condo together in college as two single best friends was a good close second, because those memories just can’t be beat haha).
When Alyssa and I started chatting about her maternity shoot with her second baby girl, we wanted to keep it in Central Oregon, because that’s where her heart lies. I instantly suggested Smith Rock (probably my favorite location just ever in Oregon) and she was all in! She didn’t realize we’d be walking so much, and so much steep downhill, so about 5 minutes into the walk I gave her my sneakers and walked barefoot the rest of the way (the sweetest random passerby walker made a comment about how I was a very committed and selfless photographer, which was SO sweet, but we both laughed about the fact that nobody else in the world would probably willingly put on my sweaty sneakers haha).
This shoot is one I’ll never forget. Photographing anyone’s story is an honor, but there’s something so beautiful about watching your childhood best friend grow into the woman she’s always prayed to be. And getting to watch (and capture, forever) her and husband and their sweet daughter anticipate the arrival of their second blessing was just SUCH a privilege.
I love you so much, Alyssa (and B, E, +A!). I’m forever thankful for our friendship, for your support, and for the uncountable beautiful memories we have together!
