This vibrant San Miguel De Allende Callejoneada with the Lopez’s was the most fun traditional celebration before their wedding ceremony!!
(find out what a Callejoneada is here!)
When Marissa first emailed me, I have to be honest… I googled San Miguel De Allende. I had NO idea where it was! One google search and I was hooked. The color? Vibrancy? Culture? SIGN ME UP!!!
I was overjoyed and completely humbled that she wanted me to be the photographer to capture her and Steven’s incredible day. At that time, I didn’t even know about the Callejoneada aspect of the wedding celebration! She told me it would be like a “parade” where their friends and family walk the streets of San Miguel, cheering, signing, dancing, and celebrating their upcoming wedding. I imagined it would be amazing, but I truly had NO idea just how incredible and intimate and beautiful this experience would be.
I cried, laughed, danced, pet a donkey, and took a shoot of tequila with my bride and groom. Initially, I wasn’t even supposed to go to the dinner part of it (just document the callejoneada), but Marissa, Steven, and both their parents INSISTED I come as a GUEST, to enjoy food, have a drink, and just celebrate with everyone. It was so amazing and indescribable. They made me feel like family. Like I was a part of it all, and not just their to photograph it.
Three days after I got home from this wedding, the USA closed it’s borders. It felt like we were living in a different world for those few days, and I’m so thankful for the overwhelming joy and love and sense of community and love this trip provided. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
I love you so much M+S.
